If you still have questions, please get in touch.

Q.  How is seeing you any different from someone else?

A. Many people offer nutrition advice with as little as three months’ training. I completed a double degree in Nutrition and Dietetics over four years at university. The final year of study is dedicated to clinical placement where we hone in on clinical skills in medical nutrition therapy.

Dietitians are the only nutrition professionals recognised by Medicare and the Australian Government. To maintain my registration as an Accredited Practising Dietitian I continuously participate in continued professional development.

Q. Will I need a referral to see you?

A. No. If you are a private client you don’t need a referral. However if you have a specific health condition it is helpful to have a referral with relevant clinical history. Also, if you have a Medicare chronic disease management plan and wish to claim a rebate, then yes, you will need an allied health referral, formerly known as Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) referral.

Q. How much rebate can I expect?

A. If you are a private client, this will depend on your level of Private Health extras cover, please check with your provider.

If you have a Medicare care plan or Eating Disorder care plan, the current rebate amount is $58 (as at 1st July, 2023).

Q. What can I expect from an initial consultation?

A. An initial consultation will involve lots of chatting and getting to know you. There will be questions related to your medical and social history, as well as questions about your relationship with food and what you enjoy eating.  I will use this information along with your nutrition goals to create effective strategies to help you to reach outcomes.

Q. Will you write me a up a diet plan?

A. No. Studies have shown that around 90% of people who lose weight through dieting will regain this weight within two years. Consequently, I steer away from generic diet plans as they perpetuate disordered eating.

Instead, I prefer to work with you to establish realistic and achievable eating strategies that fit with your circumstances.

Q. Does Joanna also see clients with eating disorders?

A. Currently only Madeleine sees clients experiencing eating disorders. Please book in with her if you need support.
